monitoring entity. The condition can be a system error, a change in an environmental
condition, a system resource that is outside currently accepted limits, or some other
system status that is no longer within specification.

Some events result in alerts. An alert is a notification that an event occurred that
requires attention. Refer to

3.5.14 Alert Management

for more information.

A fault is a failure of a hardware component, a software component, or some
combination of components. A fault typically results in both an event and an alert.

Management firmware enters data for atypical health status, faults, and state transitional
events to an event log for each partition. The partition event log contains entries for a
partition and its member cells.

Figure 3-5

shows the partition event log page.

Both management firmware and the host operating system access the partition event
log to capture event data and clear entries.

Use the event log, along with the sensor readings, to diagnose problems and answer
questions, such as

Why is the health status for the partition not normal?

Why does the partition not boot successfully?

What event triggered an alert notification?

What errors occurred during diagnostics tests?
