Installing the HostRAID Controller and Drives

To install the Adaptec SAS HostRAID controller and drives:

If you have a a low-profile computer cabinet, replace the original
full-height bracket with the low-profile bracket supplied in Adaptec
HostRAID controller kit.

Turn off your computer.

Ground yourself by touching the system chassis. See

for more information.

Unplug the power cord.

Open the system cabinet.

Select an available 64-bit slot that is compliant with PCI/PCI-X
Local Bus Specification 2.2 or higher.

Note:

You’ll get better performance if you use a PCI-X slot.

Remove the cover from the PCI/PCI-X slot.

Install the HostRAID controller in the PCI/PCI-X slot and secure
the controller bracket to the chassis.

Connect the computer’s disk activity LED cable to the appropriate
connector on the HostRAID controller.

Ensure that the positive lead of the LED cable, usually a red wire or a
wire marked with a red stripe, is attached to pin 1 and the negative
lead, usually a black wire, is attached to pin 2.

Install and connect any internal drives using the appropriate cable.

Close the computer cabinet.

Connect any external cables and drives to the HostRAID controller.
