Brake Control Rectifi ers

NORD brake control rectifi ers convert AC voltage to
DC voltage. Rectifi ers are used because most appli-
cations require AC voltage to power the motor, but
DC power is required to power the brake and DC
power is not typically available.

NORD brakemotors include the rectifi er located
inside the terminal box. NORD rectifi ers have six
terminals and can be powered by the motor terminal
block, or by a separate power source.

Rectifi er Advantages:

• Individual power source for each brake
• Compact size, mounted inside the terminal box
• Multiple voltage options, types, and
release/engagement modes available
• Mountable in remote control cabinet
• Integral protection against voltage spikes

Rectifi er Types:

Full-wave rectifi er: The DC output voltage is 90%
of the applied input AC voltage – types “GV…”

Half-wave rectifi er: The DC output voltage is 45% of
the applied input AC voltage – types “GH…”

Push-hybrid rectifi er (full-wave and half-wave):
The

rectifi er is designed to switch from an initial

full-wave mode to a fi nal half-wave mode in
approximately 250 ms – types “GP…”

Standard Rectifi er

NORD standard rectifi ers are provided with each
brake motor (except 24 VDC brakes) unless a sealed
or high performance rectifi er is specifi ed.

Sealed Rectifi ers G…V

NORD offers rectifi ers that are sealed with an elec-
trically safe resin to ensure that water and moisture
will not pass into the rectifi er. Sealed rectifi ers have
the same brake performance ratings as the standard
rectifi er and can be benefi cial if water is present in
the motors terminal box.
