Suppressing update copy operations during pair restoration

You can suppress update copy operations when you restore pairs using Quick Restore. Suppressing
update copy operations keeps the P-VOL and S-VOL unsynchronized and reduces the effect on
host I/O performance.

Prerequisite: The pair status is “DUPLEX”.

Enable the Swap & Freeze system option.

For more information about how to enable this system option, see

“Enabling system options”

(page 35)

2.

Restore the pair using Quick Restore.

BC Z pair deletion

Delete the BC Z pairs that you no longer need. Deleting a pair unpairs the P-VOL and S-VOL but
does not delete their data. You can use the volumes of deleted pairs in another pair.

If you are sharing BC Z S-VOLs with Cnt Ac-J Z P-VOLs and you plan to perform a CG pair-split,
register the split time for an BC Z CG before you delete the pair. The registered split time is deleted
when you delete the following pairs:

The BC Z pairs that are assigned to the BC Z CG.

The Cnt Ac-J Z pairs that are assigned to the Cnt Ac-J Z R-JNL, which is the journal volume on
the remote system associated to the S-VOL.
