2 Planning and design

This topic discusses requirements for using FS. Please read this topic before using FS.

System requirements

The following is a list of system requirements that are required to perform FS tasks:

A P9500 storage system with P-VOL and S-VOLs.

FS and THP, which run on RWC computers.

Requirements for Fast Snap

The following is a list of requirements to use FS:

The hardware and microcode is configured and set up.

The license key for THP is installed using RWC.

For more information about license keys and RWC and THP installation, see the HP XP P9000
Remote Web Console User Guide
.

Installing Fast Snap workflow

Use the following workflow to install FS:
1.

Install shared memory for differential tables.

2.

Install the shared memory for V-VOL management areas.

3.

Install THP, which is prerequisite software for FS.

4.

Install FS.

THP and FS share the same shared memory. Before installing additional shared memory for
V-VOL management areas, contact HP Technical Support.

Step 1 is unneeded if the shared memory for differential tables is already installed.

The workflow for removing Fast Snap

Use the following process to remove FS:
1.

Release the FS pairs.

2.

Delete all pools.

3.

Delete all V-VOLs.

4.

Remove FS.

Requirements for licensed capacity

If you use FS, you must have the capacity licensed for the FS P-VOLs and pools. The capacity of
pools which are used for FS is subtracted from the licensed capacity for THP. Therefore, if you use
FS, secure the licensed capacity for THP more than the total capacity used for both THP and FS.
