3 Performing configuration tasks

This topic describes creating pools, creating V-VOLs, and settings of the command device for
configuring FS.

Configuration tasks workflow

The following image shows how to run FS.

Use the following process to run FS:

1.

Create a V-VOL management area in the shared memory.

The V-VOL management area is created when you install additional shared memory.

For more information about installing shared memory, see

“Installing Fast Snap workflow”

(page 26)

.

For more information about the additional shared memory, contact HP Technical Support.

2.

Create the pools.

3.

Create the FS pairs.

4.

Acquire the snapshot data.

5.

Maintain the FS pair status, which includes deleting any unneeded snapshot data FS pairs.

NOTE:

Deleting an FS pair deletes the snapshot data, which is acquired with the FS pair,

from the pool.

6.

(If a failure occurs) Perform the recovery task to write snapshot data over the P-VOL.

NOTE:

While the FS pair is recovering, you cannot recover other FS pairs.

For more information about tasks on FS pairs and pair statuses, see

“Pair status” (page 14)

.

Pool volumes with system area

Creating a pool automatically sets the new pool-VOL with system area according to the priority of
hard disk drive types.

The following table shows the hard disk drive type priority.
