You cannot use the noread mode (-m noread) for S-VOLs if you are using RAID Manager. If the
noread mode is specified for a S-VOL when creating a pair, the command ends normally but the
noread mode does not take effect.
If a RAID Manager command is rejected and ends abnormally, sense bytes (SSB) are output to the
RAID Manager error log file if the host is running the HP-UX operating system. Sense bytes indicate
the cause of the error. For more information about SSB and error causes, see

“Troubleshooting

with RAID Manager” (page 73)

Troubleshooting with RAID Manager

When an error occurs using RAID Manager, you can identify the cause of the error by referring
to the following:

The log shown on the RAID Manager window

The RAID Manager operation log file

Find the error code from the logs displayed in the RAID Manager window.
The following figure shows an example of a log displayed in the RAID Manager window:

Locate the SSB1 and SSB2 codes. In the previous figure the error codes appear to the right
of "SSB=".

The last four digits to the left of the comma (,) are the SSB1 code (B9E1).

The last four digits to the right of the comma (,) are the SSB2 code (B901).

Locate the description of the SSB1/SSB2 error code combination in the next table. For error
codes not described in this table, contact HP Technical Support.

Open the RAID Manager log file in the folloing default location:

/HORCM/log*/curlog/horcmlog_HOST/horcm.log

where:

The asterisk (*) is the instance number.

HOST

is the host name.

Find the error code. An example error code string is:

11:06:03-37897-10413- SSB = 0xB901,4A96

Locate the SSB1 and SSB2 codes. In the example error code above:

Error codes appear to the right of "SSB=".

The last four digits to the left of the comma (,) are the SSB1 code (B901).

The characters to the right of the comma (,) are the SSB2 code (4A96).

Locate the description of the SSB1/SSB2 error code combination in the following table.
