4 Pair tasks
This chapter provides instructions for performing pair tasks.
Creating Fast Snap pairs
You can assign a P-VOL to a maximum of 1,024 FS pairs. You can create up to 1,024 pairs at a
time. To create more than 1,024 pairs, repeat this procedure.
When specifying the P-VOL and S-VOLs, make sure that the size of the two volumes is the same.
When specifying a P-VOL that is already used as the P-VOL of another FS pair, make sure that the
two FS pairs share the same pool.
CAUTION: After creating the FS pair, if the number of pairs is shown on the Summary tab and
on the list is different, the configuration is being changed. If this occurs, wait for a while, then click
File > Refresh All to reload the configuration information.
CAUTION: To avoid the pair from being suspended (“PSUE” status), do not create FS pairs while
you are shutting down.
To use BC/SS volumes as FS volumes, complete the following:
1. Create the BC/SS pair.
2. Create the FS pair.
To use an BC/SS volume as an FS P-VOL and there are no available MU numbers, complete the
following:
1. Delete the FS pairs of MU numbers 0 to 2.
2. Create the BC/SS pair.
3. Recreate the FS pair.
Prerequisites

You have the Storage Administrator (Local Copy) role.
•
The pair is in a status other than “SMPL (PD)”.

1. Display the Create Pairs window by performing one of the followings:

Click Create Pairs in General Tasks.
•
In the Storage Systems tree, click Replications> Local Replications. In the Pairs tab, click
Create Pairs.
2. In the Create Pair window, for Copy Type select Fast Snap.
3. For Number of Secondary Volumes, specify the total number of S-VOLs (including the already
configured pairs) that corresponds to the single P-VOL.
4. Click Next and complete the following:

For Use Primary Volumes of Snapshot Pairs, select the kind of volumes you want to add
the Available LDEVs table:
- Yes shows LDEVs that are already used as P-VOLs.
