CAUTION:

Note the following when you boot or reboot the host server, such as HP-UX or

Solaris, or when you use the host server to run the read command on a V-VOL to recognize
a device:

You cannot change the volume of the device that is recognized by the host server to a
V-VOL.

You must first create the FS pairs and acquire the snapshot data before you can boot or
reboot the host server or run the command for recognizing devices (Maintain the pair
status of the V-VOLs that is recognized to the host server the “PSUS” status).

Fulfill all of the above conditions to recognize the devices or to prevent failures stopping the
host server.

If you booted or rebooted the host server, or you ran commands to recognize devices and
stopped the host server, run commands in the following steps:

1.

Forcibly stop the command process and the process of its parent.

2.

Create the FS pair.

3.

Get the snapshot data.

4.

Run the command to recognize devices.

On the server (including RAID Manager), the emulation type of the V-VOL is shown with
a zero (0), such as OPEN-0V. If you create an FS pair, specify a volume that has an
emulation type defined with a zero (0), such as OPEN-0V, for the S-VOL.

Define V-VOL groups before you create V-VOLs. The emulation type of the VDEV for the
V-VOL group is OPEN-V like the same type of the V-VOL. This VDEV capacity is always
4 TB, and the maximum capacity of a V-VOL is 4 TB, too.
