WARNING !

BEFORE BEGINNING ANY INSPECTION, INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE OR SERVICE OF ANY KIND ON
THE EQUIPMENT, VERIFY THE PRESSURE HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM THE SYSTEM AND LOCK OUT
THE EQUIPMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATIONS.

Valve operation requires
excessive effort to OPEN or
CLOSE.

Chart continued on next page.

• Lubricate the valve and cycle the valve opened and closed. For lubrication specifica-

tions, see heading 4.3 “Lubricants” on page 20.

• If equipped with Slow-Close actuator option, remove the Slow Close module and

operate the valve. See Section 6, heading “6a.1 Slow-Close Actuator,” on page 35. If
the valve operates normally, replace the slow-close actuator.

• If equipped with a gear actuator, verify that the gear actuator, actuator handle and

drive shaft are not damaged or bent, and are sufficiently lubricated. Remove the gear
actuator and operate the actuator and valve separately to determine which compo-
nent is at fault. Lubricate, repair, and/or replace as required. See heading 4.3 “Lubri-
cants” on page 20.
See Section “6.3 Servicing the Valve,” on page 27.

• Loosen and re-torque the 3/8”-16 flange mount bolts to 20 ft.-lbs. (27 N-m) in a criss-

cross pattern to ensure an EVEN seal.

• If the valve is still faulty, remove the outboard adaptor. Inspect valve ball, ball seals,

valve stem, and O-ring seals for foreign debris, deterioration, or damage. See Section
“6.3 Servicing the Valve,” on page 27.
Lubricate with an approved lubricant. See
heading 4.3 “Lubricants” on page 20.

• Inspect the valve stem area for foreign debris or improper clearance (too tight). Also

check the valve stem O-ring for cracks or splits - replace accordingly.

• If the valve stem bushing is clean, reinstall the valve stem and check for interference.

If interference is still present, disassemble and thoroughly examine and clean the
valve. See Section “6.3 Servicing the Valve,” on page 27.
