6A.3 TROUBLESHOOTING

The following charts list the possible causes and suggested remedy for “Slow-
Close” and “Electric or Gear Actuator” SVS valve troubleshooting. (See

Chart

6a-6: “SVS Valve Troubleshooting Chart,” on page 39.)

Before calling Hale Products or a Hale authorized parts service center for assis-
tance, eliminate problem causes using the following chart.

If you cannot correct the problem, before calling your Hale Customer Service
Technician or Department for assistance, observed and note the symptoms and
under what conditions the symptoms occur. Please have the valve size and
serial number (see Figure 5-1: “Sample, Serial Number Label” on page 21)
prior to calling the Customer Service at telephone number: 610-825-6300.

Slow-Close and Electric / Gear Actuator Troubleshooting

Cause / Condition

Remedy

WARNING !

BEFORE BEGINNING ANY INSPECTION, INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE OR SERVICE OF ANY KIND
ON THE EQUIPMENT, VERIFY THE PRESSURE HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM THE SYSTEM AND LOCK
OUT THE EQUIPMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATIONS.

DO NOT TAMPER WITH OR DISASSEMBLE THE SLOW-CLOSE ACTUATOR. THERE ARE NO SERVICEABLE
PARTS INSIDE. THE ACTUATOR MUST NEVER BE DISASSEMBLED AND IS REPLACED AS A SINGLE UNIT.
ORDER HALE P/N: 830-2123-21-0.

Slow-Close Actuator Option:

Slow Close actuator damping
action is insufficient or com-
pletely nonfunctional.

Slow Close actuator is leaking
fluid.

• Remove and inspect the Slow Close Actuator assembly. See Section 6, heading

“6a.1 Slow-Close Actuator,” on page 35.

• If the Slow-Close actuator is deemed defective, IT MUST BE REPLACED. Order Hale

p/n: 830-2123-21-0.

Gear Actuator Option:

Valve does not fully OPEN or
CLOSE.

• Inspect the actuator assembly for proper installation on the valve stem. Also see

heading “Manual Override, Electric Actuators” on page 36.

• If the gear actuator is suspect, see heading “MasterGear Valve Actuators” on page

40.

• Inspect the valve ball and valve seals for foreign debris, deterioration, or damage that

could cause interference between the valve ball and the seals or valve body, hindering
proper operation.
