Corrective Maintenance

CAUTION !

2 -1/2” AND 3” INTAKE VALVES DO NOT HAVE BALANCE HOLES. DO NOT
INSTALL A BALL WITH A BALANCE HOLE IN AN “INTAKE” VALVE.

DO NOT INSTALL A BALL WITHOUT A BALANCE HOLE IN A “DISCHARGE”
VALVE OR THE VALVE MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY.

8.

Install the valve seals, spacers and new valve body O-rings. Insure the O-
rings are properly seated in their grooves. Lubricate with an approved lubri-
cant. Also see Section 4.3 “Lubricants” on page 20.

9.

Verify the valve body is installed with the flow arrow (

D

), embossed on the

valve body, pointing downstream.

WARNING !

THE DIRECTION OF FLOW THROUGH THE VALVE IS INDICATED BY AN ARROW

(

D

)

LOCATED ON THE BODY OF THE VALVE. (SEE FIGURE 6-1: “SVS NON-

LOCKING AND LOCKING VALVE OVERVIEW,” ON PAGE 28.).

10.

Lightly lubricate the valve ball seals using a grease gun and an approved
lubricant through the grease fittings on both valve adapters. (See Figure 2-
1: “Typical SVS Valve Primary Components,” on page 9.)
Also see Section
4.3 “Lubricants” on page 20.

11.

OPEN the valve ball to allow visibility into the valve. When sufficient grease
is injected, you begin to see grease seeping around the top of the valve ball,
directly below the grease fitting.

Note: Certain valve adapters include a grease fitting on top and on the bottom of the
adapter. Apply grease at both fittings.

Installing the Valve

1.

Install new gaskets between the SVS valve and the discharge or inlet
adapter flanges. Apply a light coat of grease to the gaskets to hold them in
place.

2.

Install the four 3/8”-16 screws that secure the SVS valve body to the
adapter flanges on each side. (See Figure 6-1: “SVS Non-Locking and
Locking Valve Overview,” on page 28.) Tighten
and torque screws to 20 ft.-
lbs. (27 N-m) in a criss-cross pattern to ensure an EVEN seal.
