Corrective Maintenance

Non-Locking Valve:

Re-install the non-lock-
ing cover and cover
retainer making sure the
upper and lower cover
bearings are seated
properly.

Apply light a coat Loctite
#242 or equivalent the
three 1/4”-20 screws but
do not fully tighten at
this time.

Apply Loctite #242 or
equivalent to the han-
dle screw threads, then
install the handle,
washer and hex screw
in the desired position.

Install the valve STOP. Lightly coat the valve STOP stud thread with Loc-
tite #242 or equivalent, then install the valve STOP 1/4” nut.

Using a criss-cross pattern, tighten and torque the three 1/4”-20 screws
and valve STOP nut to 20 ft.-lbs. (27 N-m).

Tighten and torque the handle hex screw (1/4”-20) to 10 ft.-lbs.
(14 N-m).

Locking Valves

First, verify the location of the locking cam assembly. The dowel pin side
of the cam is positioned away from the crescent stamp ( U ) in the valve
stem. (See Figure 6-4: “Installing Locking Valve Stem,” on page 32.)

Reinstall the locking cover and cover retainer, making sure the upper and
lower cover bearings are seated properly and the bosses in the cover
properly contact the dowel pins. (See Figure 6-5: “Locking Cam View,”
on page 32.)

Note: The locking cover must have the same orientation as the valve stem, i.e., the
dowel pins must contact the bosses in the locking cover.

Apply a thin coat of Loctite #242 or equivalent and install the three 1/4”-
20 hex screws but do not fully tighten at this time.

Apply Loctite #242 or equivalent to the handle hex screw threads, then
reinstall the handle, washer and hex screw in the desired position.
