WARNING !

THE SNAP RING IS UNDER TENSION. PROPER EYE PROTECTION MUST BE
USED WHILE REMOVING THE SNAP RING. ALWAYS USE THE APPROPRIATE
TOOL FOR THE TASK.

Place a rag inside the valve body to protect the finish when the valve
stem drops free, or place your hand inside to catch the valve stem.

Push down on the top of the valve stem to push it into the valve body. If
the stem will not move, lightly tap it with a rubber or wooden mallet.

6.

Remove the valve stem thrust washer and O-rings. Discard the old O-rings.

Note: If you are using the Hale Level 2 Repair Kit, also discard the thrust washer.
For kit parts breakdown, also see Section 7 “SVS Valve Overhaul Kits,” on page 43.

7.

Inspect and clean the valve body, valve ball, valve stem, and spacers,
removing any dirt or debris. The valve stem and valve body O-ring grooves
must be cleaned before installing new O-rings, to avoid leakage.

8.

Examine the locking cam assembly area (dowel pins, spring and cam) for
cleanliness and possible weak or broken spring. Replace accordingly. (See
Figure 6-1: “SVS Non-Locking and Locking Valve Overview,” on page 28.)

Assemble the Valve

1.

Install the new thrust washer with the bevel facing up towards the snap ring
groove. (See Figure 6-2: “Non-Locking / Locking Valve Stem Assemblies,”
on page 29.)

2.

Install new valve stem O-rings. Verify the O-rings are properly seated in
their grooves. (See Figure 6-2: “Non-Locking / Locking Valve Stem Assem-
blies,” on page 29.)
Also see Figure 6-3: “Installing Non-Locking Valve
Stem” on page 31.

3.

Lubricate the valve stem with an approved lubricant. Also see Section 4.3
“Lubricants” on page 20.

4.

Install the valve stem from inside the valve body. Push the stem up into
place.

Verify that the crescent shaped stamp ( U ) on top of the stem is pointing
away from the INLET side of the valve body, or in the direction of FLOW.
(See Figure 6-3: “Installing Non-Locking Valve Stem,” on page 31.)
