The S-video connector is a round plug with several small metal pins. You can
plug this type of connector into your computer’s S-video input or output port.
IMPORTANT The S-video connector resembles other Macintosh connectors,
such as those for a printer, modem, mouse, or keyboard. Don’t confuse the
connectors; they are not interchangeable.
Many video devices use composite video format instead of S-video. The
cables for these devices have RCA-type plugs.
If your video equipment has an RCA-type plug and you don’t have a
composite video port on your Macintosh, you’ll need an adapter to connect
your video equipment to the S-video port on your Macintosh. This adapter
converts an RCA plug into an S-video plug. The equipment shipped with your
Macintosh may have included two of these adapters (one for video input, one
for video output). If not, you can purchase one from an Apple-authorized
dealer or electronics supply store.
Using video equipment with your AppleVision 1710 AV Display
The instructions that follow are for connecting a stereo VCR to a Macintosh
with an S-video port, but you can use them as a model for connecting your
computer to any video equipment.
