7.8.12 Knife Drive Box

7.8.12.1 Mounting

Bolts

CAUTION

Stop engine, and remove key from ignition
before leaving Operator’s seat for any
reason. A child or even a pet could engage
an idling machine.

Check torque of four knife drive box mounting
bolts (A) after the first 10 hours operation, and
every 100 hours thereafter. Torque bolts to
200 ft·lbf (270 N·m). When tightening, start with
the side mounting bolts.

7.8.12.2 Removing Knife Drive Box

a. Loosen knife drive belt (B), and slip off knife

drive box pulley. Refer to one of the following
sections, depending on your equipment:
• Section 7.8.9.1 Adjusting Tension: LH Knife

• Section 7.8.9.4 Adjusting Tension: RH Knife

Drive Timing Belt – A30-D

• Section 7.8.10.1 Adjusting Tension: LH

b. Stroke knife to its outer limit.

c. Clean area around knife head.

d. Remove grease zerk (D) from knife head

pin (E).

e. Remove nut and bolt (C).

f. Insert screwdriver in groove of pin (E), and pry

up on pin to free knife. Pin does NOT have to be
removed from arm.

g. Remove bolt (F) from pitman arm.

h. Remove pitman arm (G) from knife drive box

output shaft.

i. Remove bolts (A) attaching knife drive box

to frame.

Remove knife drive box.
