SCSI Bus Errors
Most errors related to the SCSI Bus A and, for a 4-channel Profile, SCSI Bus C cause
the system to generate a pop-up message informing you of the error. In the following
discussion, drives are notated by SCSI addresses such as x.yy.zz where:
x = the bus (for example A.yy.zz = Bus A
yy = disk drive (for example C.03.00 = Bus C, drive 3)
zz = the Logical Unit Number used for RAID drive groupings (for internal drives,
zz = 00)
The Profile.log file provides a primary source for troubleshooting the SCSI buses.
Profile.log File
All i960 activity is reported to the Profile.log file which you can view by selecting the
Profile.log icon on your desktop. In the log, for a 4-channel Profile, you will see
something similar to:
Found 2 SCSI buses.
Looking further, you will see something similar to:
SCSI bus A: x hard disks.
SCSI bus B: no devices
SCSI bus C: x hard disks.
SCSI bus D: no devices
The x is the number of video disk drives on the bus. This number varies depending on
your disk configuration. The notation shown above would appear for a 4-channel
Profile. The SCSI bus C notation will not be there for a 2-channel Profile and the
number (x) should be the same for both buses in a 4-channel Profile. Further in the
log, a notation similar to the following should appear:
Found file system “int:”
The default file system name is “int.”. Scrolling the log, you will find a list of the SCSI
drives. See the samples below. Note that there is no x.07.00, which is reserved for the
Controller.
