Networking Problems
Indications of a network problem show up as an inability to:
• Move material from or to another Profile on the net.
• Access Ethernet.
To troubleshoot networking problems:
1. Check cables to the LAN Board and the Fibre Channel Board, connect, tighten,
replace as necessary.
2. If you have added or deleted Profiles and your system was operating correctly prior
to that, check both the Ethernet configuration and the Fibre Channel configuration.
Correct as necessary.
3. Type fcconfig to verify that the Fibre Channel hardware address is set.
4. Ensure that each Profile has a unique IP name and that the Ethernet TCP/IP names
are the same as the Fibre Channel names with a _fc0 suffix. For example, an
Ethernet TCP/IP name Profile1 must have a Fibre Channel TCP/IP name of
Profile1_fc0. Check file c:\WinNT\sys32\drivers\etc\Host for this information.
5. If a Profile has been added, ensure that there are no name and IP address conflicts.
Type ping <IP name> to check for conflicts.
6. If OK, type fcping -all to test for Fibre Channel connectivity.
If you have a problem with steps 4 or 5, try:
a. Deinstalling TCP/IP.
b. Reboot.
c. Reinstalling TCP/IP.
d. Reboot.
e. Repeat step 4 or 5.
6. Run the Fibre Channel Board diagnostics, replace as necessary.
7. Replace the LAN Board.
