2. Nomenclature of parts

(1) Fixed side plate, (2) Button, (3) Cam, (4) Sheave, (5) Axle, (6) Moving side

plate, (7) Connection hole, (8) Ball bearing.

Principal materials: aluminum, stainless steel, nylon.

3. Inspection, points to verify

Before each use

Verify that the product has no cracks, deformation, marks, excessive wear,

corrosion, etc.

Check that the sheave is in good condition and working properly.

Check the axle and that the moving side plate is properly aligned.

Check the movement of the cam and the effectiveness of its spring. WARNING, do

not use your MICRO TRAXION if it has missing or worn-out teeth.

Make sure there are no foreign objects in the mechanism.

Consult the details of the inspection procedure to be carried out for each item of

PPE on the Web at www.petzl.com/ppe

During each use

It is important to regularly inspect the condition of the product. Check its

connections with the other equipment in the system and make sure that the various

pieces of equipment in the system are correctly positioned with respect to each

other.

Beware of foreign bodies (mud, snow, ice, debris, etc.) which can impede the

operation of the cam.

Warning: jamming effectiveness can vary depending on the state of the rope (wear,

moisture, ice, etc.).

Visual verification: WARNING, when the cam appears to be well outside the

body of the device, the progress capture function is disabled.

Contact PETZL if there is any doubt about the condition of this product.

4. Compatibility

Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your

application (compatible = good functional interaction).

Ropes

The MICRO TRAXION works on 8 to 11 mm diameter ropes that have a core and

sheath (EN 892 dynamic, EN 1891,semi-static, static).

Connector

Use a locking connector, preferably oval or pear-shaped. Verify that your connector

is compatible with the MICRO TRAXION. Make sure that the connector is always

loaded on its major axis.

5. Working principle

The MICRO TRAXION allows the rope to slide in one direction and jam in the

other direction. The cam’s teeth initiate the clamping action, then the rope pinches

against the sheave and jams.

6. Installing the MICRO TRAXION

Open the moving side plate. Choose the direction of rope insertion according to the

information engraved inside the device.

Install the rope without manipulating the cam: press the rope to move the cam in

the opening direction. The rope moves into place between the sheave and the cam.

Verify that the rope jams in the desired direction.

Close the moving side plate, install a locking connector through the attachment

hole and the anchor, and lock it.

To remove the rope

Remove the connector, open the moving side plate. Slide the device upward while

separating it from the rope. The rope will naturally free itself from the cam.

7. Positions

Install the MICRO TRAXION so that it is correctly positioned when the rope is

under tension. Avoid cantilevering or loading over an edge.

8. Function test

Each time the device is installed onto the rope, verify that it jams in the desired

direction.

9. Uses
Progress capture pulley

9a. Hauling

9b. Hauling

Use the MICRO TRAXION as a progress capture pulley in simple or complex haul

systems.

9c. Counterbalance system

Hauling a heavy pack or evacuating a victim from above. Always remain anchored

in.

Monitor the pulley and its cam during hauling.

Do not use the MICRO TRAXION to anchor a tyrolean or lifeline: risk of damaging

the rope.

9d. Ascending the rope

Use the MICRO TRAXION with another ascender and a footloop. The two ascenders

must be attached to the harness with a locking assembly (connector or lanyard +

connector).

Warning: do not climb above the rope clamp/grab or the anchor point and

keep your rope under tension. In case of a fall, the energy is absorbed by the

rope. As you get closer to the anchor point, the rope has less energy absorbing

capacity: there must be no shock loading when close to the anchor.

9e. Pulley

To use the MICRO TRAXION as a simple pulley, disable the progress capture

function.

Disabling the progress capture function

Warning: except for simple pulley usage, disabling the progress capture function

presents a fall hazard for the user or the load.

To disable the progress capture function, raise the cam and press the button.

Release the button to hold the cam in the raised position.

To enable the progress capture function, press the button again.
