Read Chapter 5 “RAID Overview” and Chapter 6 “Xsan Overview,” for a better understanding of the
related terminologies before you proceed.

RAID LEVEL:
1. For Xsan configuration, this field is used to specify the raid level of your data volume. Although “R6”

is supported here, it is very rarely used. Accusys recommends using “R5” for your RAID
configuration. The following explanation is assumes a “R5” selection of this field.

2. Once you make your data volume raid level selection from the drop-down list, the appropriate raid

3. Based on the number of your storage system(s), the metadata raid level is set according to the rules

described in the “SAN Software” field below.

4. For non-Xsan configuration such as the ExaSAN LUN Masking application, or Xsan configuration

without MDC, this field is used to specify the raid level of all your storage system(s). See Section
4.2.3, “The ExaSAN LUN Masking Function,” and explanation of the “SAN Software” field below
for additional information.
