To add a client computer to an Xsan:
1. Connect the client to the ExaSAN’s PCIe and Ethernet networks. Follow the procedures outlined in

Section 3, “Installing ExaSAN Compact,” to power off the system, connect the new client computer
and power every component back on.

2. Install the Xsan software on the client. Refer to Section 6.6.4, “Install Xsan Software on Xsan

Metadata Controllers and All Clients,” for more information.

3. Open Xsan Admin, select “Computers” in the “SAN Assets” list, and click the “Add” (+) button.
4. In the “Add Computers” pane of the assistant, make sure there’s a check next to the new client in the

list than click “Continue.” (If the client isn’t in the list, click Add Remote Computer and add it).

5. In the “Authenticate Clients” pane, enter the administrator’s “User Name” and “Password” for the

client and click “Continue.”

6. If license aren’t available, the “Licenses” pane appears so you can add one.
7. In the “Choose Metadata Controllers” pane, make sure there’s no check mark next to the new client in

the list, and then click “Continue.”

8. Click “Continue” on the “Summary” pane.

6.8.2 Mounting a Volume on a Client

You must mount the Xsan volume to the Clients if the volume is un-mounted.
