4.2.4.2 What is ExaSAN LUN Masking
Accusys’ LUN Masking function takes LUN Masking a step beyond protection of logical disks. LUN
Masking offers a convenient and low cost option to accomplish disk storage sharing. Through the use of
the SW04/08 switch, physical disk system can be divided into logical partitions (also referred to as
“slice”). These logical disk slices are then assigned and mapped to different clients, as if they are local
storage devices. Each client only sees the slice(s) they are assigned but not the others’.
This is accomplished without installing any SAN management software, which makes storage system
sharing become possible without the need to purchase expensive SAN management software. However,
this type of storage sharing only shares in storage capacity, multiple clients do not share data on the disk
directly.
