many different modems with differing features and levels of compatibility, all
modems cannot be tested. Even "minor" firmware revisions cause significant
changes in modem behavior.

The MODEM.INI file furnished with the system is configured for use with
Practical Peripherals PM144MT II modems. You may edit the file settings to
match your modem. Edit this file with a text editor or word processor (EDIT in
DOS is a good choice). Be sure to save this file as an unformatted (plain ASCII)
file. Comments may be added to the file by inserting the ";" character at the
beginning of a line.

Several other initialization files are provided on the MCNRCD diskette. The
modem types are described in each .INI file. For more information about the
modems they support, simply read the *.INI file with a text editor. To use one of
the provided initialization files, copy it to MODEM.INI file with the DOS copy
command.

If you have problems with configuration, you can try to send the initialization
string from a video terminal or a PC with a communications program such as
Procomm™ .

A description of each line of the file follows. All the bold items are the lines as
they appear in the file. Normal text is the description.

Note: If you are using modems other those listed in this appendix, we ask you to
send us the configuration information that works with your modems. We will
compile a list of modem parameters for different modems and will send the
information out with future software upgrades. Please indicate the manufacturer,
model number, firmware or product revision level and the configuration strings
for each end. It is also helpful to us if you can send an extra copy of the modem
manual or at least the configuration section.
