Drop axle and hub motor assemblies

The drop axle assemblies perform three functions:

The drop axle assemblies are a gearbox that will transmit the power of the hub motor at a reduced speed
to the drive wheels.

They facilitate mechanical braking.

The drop axle contains a dog clutch assembly to disconnect the hub motor from the drive wheel. This
allows the mower to be pushed by hand.

To remove the drop axles:

NOTE: The hub motor can be removed separately from

the drop axle, however it is very easy to damage
the hub motor housing doing that. Cub cadet rec-
ommends removing the drop axle and hub motor
as an assembly and separating the two on the
work bench.

1. Remove the pods and the seat box top plate by fol-

lowing the procedures described in Chapter 2: Body.

NOTE: This involves disconnecting the battery pack.

2.

Disconnect the harness of the motor that is being
removed from the controller. See Figure 3.14.

3.

Fish the harness out of the mower.

4.

Lift and safely support the rear of the mower.

5.

Remove the rear wheel of the drop axle that is being
removed. See Figure 3.15.
