NOTE: If one or both of the sensors reads “0”, the

VCM can not see that sensor(s) because it is
either disconnected or the harness is dam-
aged.

Remove the floor pan enough to gain access to
the TPS assembly connectors.

NOTE: If either of the TPS connectors are discon-

nected, plug them in and check and see if
the VCM can see the sensor now. If it was
connected:

Disconnect the TPS sensors.

Set a DMM to read DC voltage.

Measure the voltage across pins 1 and 2 of
both harness connections. See Figure 5.42.

NOTE: Standard DMM probes will not fit in the connectors. Paper clips can be used to extend the probes into

the connectors.

If the DMM should read 4.7 to 5.0 volts, the sensor has proper power and return circuits. Inspect the green
wire and/or the green wire with a white trace that runs from pin 3 from the sensor connector to pin 15 and/
or 16 of the VCM’s 16 pin connector for a fault.

If the DMM reads 0 volts, the 4 - 5 volts are either not getting to the sensor or the return circuit is faulty.
Check for voltage across pins 8 and 14 of the VCM’s 16 pin connector.

4.

Fully depress the forward drive pedal while observ-
ing the display.

A. If neither of the sensor values change there is a

mechanical failure of the TPS. Inspect the TPS
linkage and the TPS lever.

NOTE: The TPS lever is susceptible to damage

from over travel when the travel stop pin is
removed from the steering column.
See Figure 5.43.

B. If only one sensor value changes:

Inspect the TPS harness connections.

Check the main harness for damage.

Replace the TPS assembly.

C. Both sensor values change:

Operate the drive pedals fully forward and fully reverse while observing the display:

If both sensors change proportionally, re-calibrate the TPS by following the procedures described in
Chapter 4: Steering.

NOTE: The TPS pigtails can be connected to the main harness in either order, necessitating the need for re-

calibration every time they are re-connected.

Test drive the mower. If the fault returns, replace the TPS.
