For the Left yoke

5a.

Install the hex screw with the magnet, lock
washer and the fender washer.

5b.

Apply a small amount of a thread locking com-
pound such as Loctite® 262 (red) to the threads
of the hex screw with the magnet.

5c.

Tighten the hex screw holding the yoke to a
torque of 25 ft lbs (34 Nm).

5d.

Turn the hex screw with the magnet until the
north pole of the magnet (the side with the red
mark) is perpendicular with the frame, facing in.
See Figure 4.15.

NOTE: The mark may be black on early production mod-

els.

5e.

If the screw can not be tightened enough to
align the magnet, replace the screw and mag-
net.

NOTE: If installing a new screw:

• Install the screw, tightening it to a torque of 28 ft

lbs (38 Nm)

• Place a new magnet on the screw head so that the

red dot is perpendicular with the frame, facing in.

• Glue the magnet in place using Loctite

®

Super Bonder or an equivalent glue.

5f.

Install the steering sensor and bracket.

NOTE: Two flat washers are trapped between the steering

bracket and the axle casting.

5g.

Adjust the steering sensor air gap by following
the procedures described in the steering sensor
section of this chapter.

6.

Remove the 5/16” alignment pin.

7.

Install the yoke cover:

7a.

Place the two spacers over the screw holes in
the axle casting with the necked in side facing
up.

7b.

Place the star washers on top of the spacers.

7c.

Position the cover for installation.

7d.

Install the screws using a 7/16” wrench.

8.

Install the front wheel by following the procedures
described in the front wheel section of this chapter.

9.

Test drive the riding mower in a safe area before
returning it to service.

NOTE: Do not put a mower back into service if it does not

react properly to control inputs.
