No Start

This screen indicates that the VCM is waiting for the
operator to start the mower. The VCM will stay at this
screen until it checks all of its ports and the controllers turn
on (should take approximately 2 seconds).

If the operator holds the start button down, but the
mower does not start:

NOTE: The round icon on the screen should turn dark
while the start button is depressed. If it does not, the VCM
is faulty. See Figure 5.34.

1. Check VCM for fault codes.

NOTE: If there are any fault codes, use the fault code

chart at the end of this chapter to decipher the
code.

2.

Remove the left pod by following the procedures
described in Chapter 2: Body.

3.

Check all communication connections.

NOTE: The communication connectors are the ones with

the white, gray, yellow and black wires.

NOTE: The system is connected in a daisy chain network.

If one connection is broken, the entire network will
shut down.

• If all connections are good, but the mower does

not start replace the VCM.

• If there is a faulty connection, fix the connection

and try to start the mower again.

Steering faults

The steering sensor is a 360

o

rotary hall effect sensor

with a 5 volt input signal. The sensor acts like a variable
resistor, varying the output voltage based on the angle of
the magnet’s north pole.

The steering senor output falls on a scale of approxi-
mately 70 - 730. The numbers are binary values assigned
by the VCM based on the sensor’s output voltage. As the
sensor reaches one end of the scale, it will jump to the
other end. See Figure 5.36.

When installed properly, the magnets north pole should
be perpendicular to the wheels axis, facing the frame.

If the VCM senses a problem with the steering sensor, it
will shut down and display a “Stopped: Steering sensor
fault” message. There are three conditions that will trigger
this message:
