7.

Remove the VCM by following the procedures
described in the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) sec-
tion of this chapter.

8.

Install the harness break out adapters.

9.

Measure the voltage across pins 7 and 8 of the 12
pin VCM connector. See Figure 5.33.

NOTE: The pigtail wires on the break out adapters

are numbered to match the pin they are
attached to.

If the DMM reads battery voltage both the
power and the return side of the power circuit
are functional.

If the DMM reading is less than battery voltage,
voltage is being lost in the harness. Check from
pin 7 to the positive battery connection at the
contactor, then check from pin 8 to the master
ground bus on the control panel. The side that
reads less than battery voltage is the bad side
of the circuit. Fix the harness and re-test the
mower.

10.

Turn the key switch to the “ON” position.

11.

Attach the negative probe of the DMM to pin 7 of
the 12 pin connector.

12.

Measure the voltage at pin 11 of the 16 pin connec-
tor with the positive probe of the DMM.
See Figure 5.33.

13.

If the voltage is 0, the VCM is faulty and must be
replaced.

14.

Measure the voltage at pin 9 of the 16 pin connector
with the positive probe of the DMM.

15.

If the reading is battery voltage, the VCM is faulty
and must be replaced.

16.

If the voltage is 0, check the key switch.

17.

Remove screws securing the right pod by following
the procedures described in Chapter 2: Body.

NOTE: Do not remove the pod.

18.

Lift the pod enough to gain access to the key switch.

19.

With the key switch in the “ON” position, measure
the voltage between pin 7 of the 12 pin VCM con-
nector and both red wires at the key switch.

If both wires measure battery voltage, the key
switch is good, there is a fault in the red wire
with a black trace.

If only the red wire has battery voltage, the key
switch is faulty.

If there is 0 volts at both wires, there is a fault in
the red wire.
