Introduction

1.1 Purpose

This manual explains how to install and operate the MX/QX FOUNDATION™ fieldbus field unit
(MX/QX FF). Actuators containing the FF field unit may be connected by a single twisted-pair cable
to form a FOUNDATION fieldbus communication system network. The FOUNDATION fieldbus
communication system is a digital, serial, two-way bus system running at 31.25 kbits/s. This
system allows a host system such as a distributed control system (DCS) to control and monitor
the actuators, including the acquisition of status and alarm data from each MX/QX.
