Chapter 7: Roof Assembly

Assembling a Laminated Purlin

Laminated purlins nest together to give additional strength and should be assembled before constructing
the A-frames.

What You Should Know
Refer to

Attachment Locations of Purlins to Rafters , page 90

for laminated purlin installation locations in

the A-frame.

NOTE: The purlin insert will have a red paint stripe marked on it for identification purposes.

1. Place the purlin (A) against the mating surface of the purlin insert (B), and install flange bolts (C) and

flange nuts (D).

NOTE: The purlin insert is positioned underneath the flange of the purlin.

2. Tighten all the hardware to the recommended torque specification. See

Bolt Torque Specifications,

page 29
