HP SIM. Credentials are passed from HP SIM to HP SE, so if you perform Discovery from HP
SIM, the user names and passwords for discovering those elements appear in HP SE.
• Multiple entries in SE may result when modifying username and password in HP SIM - If
you use Discovery from HP SIM, the user name and passwords for those elements are forwarded
HP SE. If you modify a user name for an element in Discovery from HP SIM, the modification is
passed to HP SE as a new discovery entry for that element. The entry with the old user name is
not removed from HP SE. This is also true for password modification. Unless removed, the invalid
entry is included in Discovery from HP SE.
• Testing Discovery from HP SE (Tools > Storage Essentials > Home > Discovery > Setup)
lets you test an IP address and its credentials, so you can diagnose discovery problems.
Accessing the Discovery Pages for HP SIM and HP SE
The HP SIM and HP SE discovery pages are accessed differently. Each method is described in the
following sections.
HP SIM provides two ways for you to access its login page:
• From the Start menu - Select Start > Programs > HP Systems Insight Manager > HP
Systems Insight Manager . This selection displays a Web browser with the URL for HP SIM
displayed.
• From a Web browser - Type the following in the Address field of Microsoft Internet Explorer:
https://<FQDN of localhost>:50000
For example: https://example.domain.com:50000
The host name must be fully qualified.
Accessing the HP Systems Insight Manager Discovery Page
Follow these steps to access the HP SIM discovery pages:
1. Log in to HP SIM.
2. Select Options > Discovery on the HP SIM home page menu. The HP SIM Discovery page is
displayed.
3. See ” Discovery Steps ” on page 20 for more details on Discovery from HP SIM.
Accessing the HP SE Discovery Page
Follow these steps to access the HP SE discovery pages:
1. Log in to HP SIM.
2. Select Tools > Storage Essentials > Home on the HP SIM home page menu. The HP Storage
Essentials home page opens in a separate web browser window.
3. Click Discovery in the upper-right pane of the HP Storage Essentials home page window. The
HP SE Discovery page is displayed.
