5 External Storage operations

Use spreadsheets for Ext Stor to retrieve system information and map external volumes to the local
system. You use CLI in Ext Stor to process spreadsheets.

External Storage spreadsheet tasks

The CLI can process custom spreadsheets for Ext Stor tasks, such as:

Retrieve SSID information.

Retrieve external group information.

Retrieve external volume information.

Map external volumes with LDEVs.

Disconnect an external volume.

Restore an external volume.

Delete the mapping to an external volume.

Move external volumes from one path group to an existing path group or to a new group
path.

Workflow for CLI-based spreadsheets in External Storage

Use the following workflow for CLI-based spreadsheets:
1.

Make a copy of the spreadsheet template from the tools folder and save it with a unique name
to a working folder or the desktop.

For more information on how to locate the tools folder, see

“Command Line Interface Installation

and Commands” (page 9)

2.

Launch a spreadsheet application, such as Microsoft Excel, and then open your copy of the
spreadsheet template.

3.

Edit the spreadsheet, and then save your changes.

4.

Validate the edited spreadsheet.

If errors occur, edit and validate the spreadsheet until no errors exist.

5.

Process the spreadsheet. For more information on how to process a valid spreadsheet, see

“Running CLI-based spreadsheets ” (page 35)

Prerequisites

Before using spreadsheets in Ext Stor, ensure you have met the following prerequisites:

The CLI and accompanying third-party files are installed.

You have the appropriate permissions.

All resource group IDs that are set to the storage system are assigned to the user ID referenced
in the user authentication file of the RWC CLI.
