8 Run the appropriate online diagnostic test (see "Using Dell PowerEdge

Diagnostics" on page 163).

Troubleshooting a Damaged System

Problem

System was dropped or damaged.

Action

CAUTION:

Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You

should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your
product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and
support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered
by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the
product.

1 Open the system (see "System Cover" on page 66).
2 Ensure that the following components are properly installed:

Expansion cards

Power supplies

Fans

Processor and heat sink

Memory modules

Drive-carrier connections to the SAS/SATA backplane, if applicable

3 Ensure that all cables are properly connected.
4 Close the system (see "Installing the System Cover" on page 67).
5 Run the system board tests in the system diagnostics (see "Running the

System Diagnostics" on page 163).
