3.4 Integrating the A-100 with MIDI
Several interface modules are available to connect the
A-100 with MIDI or USB. As an example the
MIDI/
USB-to-CV/SYNC Interface A-190-4 is described
here. It has the following outputs available:
•
CV 1 (for pitch control)
•
CV 2 (any MIDI-Controller or velocity)
•
Gate
•
Clock
•
Start / Stop
The A-190-4 automatically sends pitch control CV and
gate information out on the INT.CV and INT.GATE
busses if the corresponding jumpers are installed.
Another solution is the usage of the MIDI-CV Interfa-
ces
A-190-2 or A-190-3 which have one Gate and four
CV outputs available. The A-190-3 is additionally
equipped with USB.
To link the A-100 into a MIDI system, even external
MIDI interfaces like our
MCV4, Dark Link, MSY2 or
the MCV24. As the MCV24 is no longer in production
you will have to try to find a second hand unit.
VC Modules like the VC-ADSR or VC-LFO can be
controlled also via CV from the interfaces, so that, for
instance, a continuous MIDI controller can alter enve-
lope parameters in real time. Since these controllers
can be recorded by a MIDI sequencer, VC modules are
effectively programmable.
If you want to use MIDI clock to sync A-100 modules
(e.g. the sequencer A-155) to other MIDI equipment
the clock output of the A-190-4 may be used. A more
sophisticated Midi/USB controlled clock source is the
module
A-190-8. It has different clock rates and some
more features available.
Analog sequencing can be provided by the A-155 or
the external sequencers
MAQ 16/3 or Dark Time. To
convert the analog data of the A-155 into Midi note
messages the CV/Gate-to-Midi/USB interface
A-192-2
can be used.
To convert up to 16 continuous control voltages in the
range 0...+5V (e.g. from a Theremin A-178 or Joy-Stick
A-174-1 or Foot-Controller A-177-2 or ribbon controller
A-198 or whatever) into MIDI control change messa-
ges the CV-to-MIDI interface
A-192-1 is the right
choice.
