SETTING STITCH LENGTH AND

NEEDLE^THREAD TENSION

Make a test sample with the fabric and

thread you plan to use so that you can

adjust your stitch length and ncedlO'^

thread tension properly, if you need to

adjust pressure, see page 21.

Stitch Length

Any stitch length setting from 4 to 1 will

give you an open zig-zag stitch of

whatever pattern you select. The higher

the number, the more open, or farther

apart your stitches will be.
The area between 1 and 0 is used for the

adjustment of closed zig-zag. or satin

Needle-Thread Tension

Zig-zag stitching requires less tension
than straight stitching. Notice the stitch
ing on your test sample. The stitches
should lie fiat against the fabric without

being too taut or without causing the

fabric to pucker.

If the stitches are not flat lower the

needle-thread tension by turning the dial

to a lower number.
