TrueCopy Open/MF Consistency Groups

A TrueCopy Open/MF consistency group is a user-defined set of volume pairs. If you specify a
consistency group for TrueCopy Synchronous pairs, you can issue a command for each group and
can also ensure the consistency of the pairs in the same group.

TrueCopy for Mainframe synchronous pairs and XP Continuous Access synchronous pairs can be
registered in a TrueCopy Open/MF consistency group. If an XP Continuous Access synchronous
pair and a TrueCopy for Mainframe synchronous pair are registered in the same group, you can
ensure the consistency between them. If only XP Continuous Access synchronous pairs or only
TrueCopy for Mainframe synchronous pairs are registered in the group, they behave like default
Consistency Groups. For more information about XP Continuous Access synchronous pairs, see
the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Continuous Access Software User's Guide.

If the Open or z/OS split command (

Pairsplit-r

or

YKSUSPND

) is issued to the corresponding

consistency group, but the I/O processing on some volumes in the consistency group has not
finished yet; the split operation to XP Continuous Access volume pairs is executed after I/O
processing and the data transfers to their S-VOLs have finished. The split operation to the TrueCopy
for Mainframe volume pairs is executed after the track processing of the volumes that are I/O
processing and data transfers to R-VOLs have finished.

Even if the suspend operation is caused by a failure, the pairs in a consistency group will be
suspended in a similar fashion ensuring the data consistency of the pairs in the corresponding
group.

You can ensure consistency of data of volumes in the same DKC. XP Continuous Access allows
you to configure up to 128 consistency groups (00-7F) for each MCU.

For detailed information about TrueCopy Open/MF consistency groups, see

“TrueCopy Open/MF

Consistency Group Operations” (page 26)

XP Continuous Access synchronous pairs in the TrueCopy Open/MF consistency groups can be
defined and operated only by RAID Manager. TrueCopy for Mainframe synchronous pairs in the
TrueCopy Open/MF consistency groups can be defined and operated only by Business Continuity
Manager. For details, see the user guide for RAID Manager or Business Continuity Manager.

To define or operate the XP Continuous Access sychronous pairs in the TrueCopy Open/MF
consistency groups, install the XP Continuous Access Software. A TrueCopy Open/MF consistency
group and an XP Continuous Access synchronous consistency group described in the HP
StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Continuous Access Software User's Guide
behave the same.
For more information about XP Continuous Access synchronous consistency groups, see the HP
StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Continuous Access Software User's Guide
.

You must use the same consistency group number when XP Continuous Access synchronous pairs
and TrueCopy for Mainframe synchronous pairs are registered in the same TrueCopy Open/MF
consistency group. Therefore, you must decide beforehand which consistency group number will
be used in RAID Manager and Business Continuity Manager. You must specify an unused consistency
group number when creating a new consistency group. Before starting the operation, define the
pairs that will be in the consistency group by specifying the group number in RAID Manager and
also in the Copy Group Attributes (TC) window of Business Continuity Manager. For more
inforamtion about the Copy Group Attributes (TC) window, see HP StorageWorks Business Continuity
Manager Software User Guide
.

Asynchronous Consistency Groups

A TrueCopy for Mainframe Async consistency group is a user-defined set of pairs across which
update sequence consistency is maintained and ensured at the remote site. Each TrueCopy for
Mainframe Asynchronous pair must be assigned to a consistency group. TrueCopy for Mainframe
Asynchronous allows you to configure up to 128 consistency groups (00-7F) for each MCU and
provides group-based operations for consistency groups (for example, suspend and resynchronize
group). Consistency groups enable you to maintain update sequence consistency for databases
