Table 54 Troubleshooting Suspended TrueCopy for Mainframe Pairs (continued)

Corrective Action

Description

Applies to

Suspend Type

Resynchronize the pair
(Resume Pair) from the MCU.
The MCU will perform an
entire initial copy operation
in response to the
resynchronize pair request.

The MCU could not find
valid control information in
its nonvolatile memory
during the IMPL procedure.
This error occurs only if the
MCU is without power for
more than 48 hours (power
failure and fully discharged
batteries).

M-VOL, R-VOL

MCU IMPL

Release the pair from the
MCU. Clear all error
conditions at the MCU,
M-VOL, RCU, and R-VOL.
Reformat failed track using
ICKDSF. Restart the initial
copy operation using the
Add Pair dialog box.

The MCU suspended this
pair during the initial copy
operation. The data on the
R-VOL is not identical to the
data on the M-VOL. Invalid
track format can cause this
suspension.

M-VOL, R-VOL

Initial Copy Failed

Resynchronize the pair(s)
from the MCU (Delete Pair)
using Resume Pair or the
CESTPAIR (MODE=RESYNC)
TSO command.

All TrueCopy for Mainframe
Synchronous pairs in the
MCU were suspended by
the CGROUP/FREEZE
command.

M-VOL, R-VOL

by FREEZE

None. The MCU will
automatically resynchronize
these TrueCopy for
Mainframe Asynchronous
pairs during power-on.

The MCU suspended all
TrueCopy for Mainframe
Asynchronous pairs due to
MCU power-off.

R-VOL (TrueCopy for
Mainframe Asynchronous)

MCU P/S-OFF

Execute one of the following;

Add cache memory,

Increase the number of
paths between MCU and
RCU,

Decrease the number of
Async pairs, or

Decrease the host I/Os.

The amount of sidefile
exceeds the specified current
pending update data rate,
and the RCU data is not
transferred within the
specified offloading timer.

M-VOL, R-VOL

by Sidefile Overflow

“Resolving TrueCopy for Mainframe Async Suspension Conditions” (page 186)

provides

troubleshooting instructions for the TrueCopy for Mainframe Asynchronous suspension conditions
caused by the offloading timer async option, the group timeout options (copy pending and RCU
ready), and recordset errors. Hardware failures which affect the cache storage/shared memory
of the MCU or RCU may also cause the TrueCopy for Mainframe Asynchronous pairs to be
suspended.
