3 Preparing for TrueCopy for Mainframe Operations

This chapter describes the requirements for using TrueCopy for Mainframe and provides instructions
for installing the TrueCopy for Mainframe hardware and software and preparing the HP storage
systems for TrueCopy for Mainframe operations. Please read this chapter before you start the
operation of TrueCopy for Mainframe.

System Requirements

TrueCopy for Mainframe operations involve the MCUs and RCUs containing the main and remote
volumes, the remote copy connections between the MCUs and RCUs, the zSeries and S/390 host(s)
at the main and remote sites, and the TrueCopy for Mainframe software. The TrueCopy for
Mainframe system requirements are:

MCU: XP storage system with TrueCopy for Mainframe installed by using license code.

For information on remote copy operations using the XP12000/XP10000 storage system as
an MCU, see the Hitachi TrueCopy™ for z/OS User Guide: HP XP12000 Disk Array, HP
XP10000 Disk Array, HP 200 Storage Virtualization System
.

For important information about proper configuration for your operational environment, see

“TrueCopy for Mainframe Load Balancing and Sidefile Management and Control” (page 256)

.

RCU: XP storage system with TrueCopy for Mainframe installed by using license code.
XP12000/XP10000 storage system with TrueCopy for Mainframe installed can be used as
an RCU connected to an HP disk array MCU. For assistance with mixed storage system
configurations, contact your HP service representative.

TrueCopy for Mainframe can coexist with XP Continuous Access (all copy modes) in the same
XP storage system. Full Fibre Channel support will allow concurrent fibre-mode XP Continuous
Access and TrueCopy for Mainframe operations.

The XP storage systems may have additional installation requirements (for example, system
option modes, DKC-F510I-32FS2, DKC-F515I-MIX2, additional cache, etc.). For information
on system option modes for TrueCopy for Mainframe, see

“XP Disk Array Modes for TrueCopy

for Mainframe” (page 12)

.

zSeries and S/390 host: MVS/DFP 3.2.0 + PTF, or VM/ESA 2.1.0 + PTF.

Optional error recover procedure (ERP) functions require MVS/DFP 3.2.0 or later.

ICKDSF R16 + PTF functions require VM/ESA 2.1.0 or later.

If the primary and/or secondary system consists of several CPU complexes, a SYSPLEX
timer is required to provide a common time reference for the host I/O time-stamping
function.

APAR OW36948 is required for 16–session support for Compatible XRC.
