If the Open or Mainframe split command (

Pairsplit-r

or

YKSUSPND

) is issued to an XP

Continuous Access or TrueCopy Open/MF consistency group but the I/O processing on some
volumes in the consistency group has not finished yet, the split operation to these volume pairs is
executed to maintain data consistency after the track processing of the volume that is still busy
withI/O processing and the data transfers to R-VOLs have finished.

“Process of the split command when volumes in a consistency group are busy with I/O Processing
(TrueCopy for Mainframe volume)” (page 28)

shows the data in track 2 is copied to the R-VOL

and the data in track 3 becomes differential data because track 2 is used for I/O processing of
the volume in the consistency group when the split command is issued.

Figure 7 Process of the split command when volumes in a consistency group are busy with I/O
Processing (TrueCopy for Mainframe volume)

If I/O processing on a pair in a consistency group (on which the split command is issued) is required
from the server for open system or the host for mainframe and the splitting process on the
corresponding pair has not completed yet, the splitting processing is given priority. After the pair
has been split, the I/O demand is accepted. If the suspending operation caused by a failure on
some pairs in the consistency group, the suspending operation on the rest of the pairs is performed
at the same time. Therefore, the data consistency of the pairs in the corresponding group is
maintained. At this time, the "IEA491E" message is displayed (logged) to the mainframe system
host because the pair status changes to the pair suspended-error in the case of TrueCopy for
Mainframe synchronous pairs.

RAID Manager and Business Continuity Manager provide some options concerning the control of
access to P-VOL/M-VOL and S-VOL/R-VOL from the host after the pair is suspended. These options
can be specified when the pair is suspended.

“Whether the Host Can Access P-VOL/M-VOL When

Each Option is Specified” (page 29)

and

“Whether the Host Can Access S-VOL/R-VOL When

Each Option is Specified” (page 29)

show whether the host can access P-VOL/M-VOL or

S-VOL/R-VOL when each option is specified.

An option must be selected in Business Continuity Manager although it is not necessary to select
an option in RAID Manager. However, no option can make an XP Continuous Access volume
prohibit Read access. For details about each option, see the HP StorageWorks RAID Manager
User Guide
or the HP StorageWorks Business Continuity Manager Software User Guide.
