6.4 STEP 2: ASSEMBLING AND INSTALLING THE ANTENNA(S)

1. The Wireless Gateway Receiver has an internal antenna that will pick up wireless signals

from the front axle. Mount the second antenna at the rear axle. If there are two axles at
the rear of the vehicle, mount the antenna between the two axles.

2. Since wireless signals are reflected by metal surfaces, the antenna(s) require a clear line-

of-sight to the tires. Mount the antenna / bracket to the underside of the vehicle in a
location that is open and unobstructed with as much ground clearance as possible. The
bracket / antenna should be installed as close to the axle as possible along the vehicle’s
centerline and should be attached to frame rails, sub frames, brackets, or face plates as
required.

3. Pod Antenna (part #s: 240.0159; 264.0254-bracket; 260.0231-hole mount cable):

A. Attach the bracket using 2 self-tapping screws (need to fit 3/16" holes) or existing

bolts. The mounting holes on the bracket may need to be enlarged to fit existing
bolts. If necessary, the bracket can also be flattened with a hammer.

B. Once the bracket has been installed, assemble the antenna.

 Remove the red rubber cap from the threaded connector on the

antenna base assembly and unscrew the 1 inch locknut. Be careful
not to lose or damage the thin, rubber seal that is pressed into the
locknut.

 Pass the threaded connector through the main hole in the bracket and

orient the base assembly so that the TNC cable naturally points in the
direction of the cable it will connect to without being bent. The base
assembly MUST be properly centered in the hole so that the grooved
tabs prevent it from being pulled through when the locknut is
tightened.

 With the rubber seal pressed into the locknut and facing the bracket,

screw the locknut back onto the connector using a 1 inch adjustable
wrench.

 Press the rubber base seal against the base of the antenna. When

assembled correctly, the rubber base seal will adhere to the antenna
base on its own.

 Carefully thread the antenna onto the locknut and, using one hand to

tighten the antenna and the other to ensure the antenna base
assembly does not turn, hand tighten the antenna until it is firmly
assembled (can not be turned further using one hand) and the rubber
base seal slightly overlaps the edges of the metal bracket on all sides.

4. Whip Antenna (part #: 240.0132):

A. Slide the metal retainer over the

antenna whip and pull it tight so
that the rubber boot fits snugly in
the retainer.

B. Install the rubber washer and

screw the antenna whip / metal
retainer on to the antenna base
ensuring that the retainer is not
cross threaded. Tighten the
assembly using a wrench.

C. Completed

assembly.
