1. Disconnect the antenna from the TNC connector at the front of the receiver unit and check for
water ingress, dirt, pin & connector corrosion on the inside, and a bent center pin. Taking safety
precautions, including eye protection, blow air into both connectors to clean out any coarse dirt or
water. Should the center pin be bent or damaged, a new connector may need to be crimped on.

2. Disconnect the 12 inch hole mount adaptor cable at the rear of the vehicle, just before the
pod/whip antenna. Perform the same check as step 1.

3. Unscrew the antenna pod/whip from the hole-mount base and check for water ingress, dirt and
corrosion. Ensure that the rubber sealant ring is intact. Clean any rust or dirt residue off the
center contact area on the hole-mount base and the flat metal contact on the antenna pod. You
may use 400-grit sandpaper and lightly brush each surface (see picture below). Secure the pod
back on its base without cross threading the socket and apply silicone sealant around the base of
the antenna in case the rubber seal was damaged. Check to make sure the antenna pod or whip
is securely fastened to the hole-mount base.

Advanced Check:

In cases where the above steps did not solve the problem, perform an electrical continuity test on
the TNC antenna extension cable between the receiver and 12" hole-mount. Follow the steps
below:

a. Disconnect the pod antenna from its base at the back of the vehicle.
b. Disconnect the TNC extension from the TNC connector at the receiver on the

front of the vehicle.

c. Use a Multimeter to check the resistance between the inside pin and outside

jacket – it should be in the Mega ohm range i.e. no numbers are displayed below
the 2M scale; should this NOT be the case the cable will have to be replaced;
you may also perform this check at the antenna base between the brass center
and outer lock nut.
