USING PCMCIA MEMORY CARDS

The MICROTHERM control unit is capable of using PCMCIA RAM cards as a
method of expanding the internal recording memory. This allows the
MICROTHERM to be left on site for extended periods or for shorter recording
intervals to be used.

However the compressed data format used on the cards by the MICROTHERM is
not compatible with the PCMCIA interfaces found on many of today’s computers.
It is therefore necessary to:

¤

Access the PCMCIA cards using a dedicated card reader,

¤

Install CardWizard® card services software to use existing PCMCIA
sockets.

Both of these solutions require the use of additional DOS based software to
extract the data from the card and transfer it to disk. However once this has
been done the resulting data files can be read and processed by the Win

I

aq

ap

plication as normal.

A further method using a modified version of the Win

I

aq that does not require

all data to be cleared from a memory card before use is described in Appendix I.

11.1 Dedicated Card Reader

The dedicated card reader is supplied together with additional DOS based
software (DeReader or DR) which is used to extract data from the PCMCIA cards
and format it ready for use by the Win

lication.

In addition the software is used to erase the cards ready for reinsertion in the
MICROTHERM control unit.
