Chapter 2 Installing NewsBrowse Machines

Image Support Server (ISS) instructions

The NewsBrowse Image Support Server is host for the background metadata
extraction services used within NewsBrowse. From the Image Support Server,
NewsBrowse processes MPEG-1 proxy content and extracts thumbnail images to be
used for proxy identification, extracts dynamic scene detection images for storyboard
creation, and renders RealVideo for low bitrate proxy content.

Platform Specifications:

• Pentium 3 1Ghz or better (1 or 2 CPU)

• 256 MB RAM

• CD-ROM Drive

• Minimum 20GB Program Drive

• Windows 2000 Workstation (SP3)

• .NET Framework (SP2)

• Internet Explorer 6 (SP1)

• Real Producer 8.5

• Mediaware hardware dongle

Cable as illustrated and as follows:

• Attach the Mediaware dongle to the parallel printer port on the back of the Image

Support Server to enable generation of thumb-nails and storyboard extraction.

• Connect an Ethernet cable from the

LAN1

port on the ISS to a network router or

switch.
