User’s Guide

While you are pressing digits to enter an index, some of the numeric buttons can become
disabled. They do so because there are no further categories that can be selected using those
buttons. For example, if you have 14 devices in a category, numbered 1–14, after you press the
digit 1, digits 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 go dark. The digits 0–4 remain because they can be part of a valid
index.

The same is true for suffixes: if a suffix cannot be used for a device name, it is disabled.

Keep in mind that device names are limited to 8 characters.

A keypad normally has 10 buttons, 0–9, and may have some number of buttons assigned to
alphanumeric suffixes. However, it is possible for a suffix page to have fewer buttons.

When you press a category button, the NV9641A displays the first of perhaps several pages of
device buttons. You can scroll the pages using the up and down buttons. If you press ‘Up’ while
on the first page of the list, the NV9641A returns to the button page containing the category.

The button text is the category name. Category names tend to be short.

It is an Grass Valley convention to use green for source category buttons and amber for destina-
tion category buttons.

Chop

When a “chop” function is supported by the router, the button is a toggle that enables and
disables chop: a rapid switching of the selected destination device between the current source
and the preset source.

The chop function is used to test system timing and would not be used during normal
operation.

The default button text is “Chop” but a chop button can have any legend.

Select a preset source and press ‘Chop’ to start the chop function. Press ‘Chop’ again to stop the
chop function.

Clear Preset

The ‘Clear Preset’ button erases all preset entries (while leaving the panel in the same mode). It
is generally a “safety” feature.

The clear preset button has the side effect of switching off ‘Save Preset’ mode.

The default button text is “Clear Preset” but the button can have any legend.

Default State

This button returns the NV9641A panel to its most recent power-up state. You can consider this
button an emergency button or a “soft reset” button.

This button does not affect any routes. Only the panel itself is reset.

The default button text is “Default State” but the button can have any legend.

P

Destination

This button selects a destination.

A destination button can occur on any page, but destination buttons often appear in destina-
tion lists. Destination lists can occur either (1) in automatically configured pages, in which case
