SECTION 4: BASIC OPERATIONS

THE START MENU

The Start menu is the main access point to all
programs, files, and settings in Windows Mobile.
A description of each Start menu option follows.

Today. The default RuggedReader display

Calendar. Appointments and events

Contacts. Contact information for your

colleagues

Field PC Tutorial. Describes basic proce-

dures (e.g., replacing batteries) for easy reference

Microsoft Internet Explorer. Internet browser

Messaging. This e-mail client allows you to send and receive e-mail

from Microsoft Outlook using ActiveSync on your desktop computer.
With a direct Internet connection, you can adjust Messaging to send e-
mail directly from the RuggedReader

Windows Media Player. Plays audio and video files

Running programs. If a program is running, it is listed on the Start

menu. For example, in the picture above, Notes and PowerPoint
Mobile are running. Tap on the program name to open the application

Programs. Opens the Programs menu window, where you can view

and access installed programs. To run a program, tap on it. For a list of
the Programs installed on your RuggedReader, see

Appendix C

Settings. Displays three settings tabs: Personal, System, and

Connections. For the location of specific settings, see the

table

in

Appendix C. To change your settings, tap on the setting you want to
change, adjust the setting controls, tap OK

TIP: To access
the Start menu,
tap the Start

menu icon

in the

top left corner of the screen,
or press the Start menu

button

on the

keypad.
