Table 43 Troubleshooting Suspended XP Continuous Access Journal Pairs

Corrective Action

Description

Applies To

Suspend
Type

Clear the error condition at the
secondary storage system or secondary
data volume. If you need to access the
secondary data volume, release the pair
from the primary storage system. If data
in the secondary data volume has been
changed, release the pair from the
primary storage system, and then
re-create the pair by using the Paircreate
window. If data in the secondary data
volume has not been changed, restore
the pair from the primary storage
system.

The primary storage system suspended
a pair because the primary storage
system detected an error condition at
the secondary storage system. The
suspend type for the secondary data
volume is by MCU.

Clear any error conditions at the
secondary storage system and the
secondary data volume. If you need to
access the secondary data volume,
release the pair from the secondary
storage system. If data in the secondary
data volume has been changed, release
the pair from the primary storage system
and then re-create the pair by using the
Paircreate window. If data in the
secondary data volume has not been
changed, restore the pair from the
primary storage system.

The primary storage system detected an
error during communications with the
secondary storage system or detected
an I/O error during update copy. In this
case, the suspend type for the
secondary data volume is usually by
MCU
.

Restore the pair (pairresync) from the
primary storage system. The primary
storage system performs an initial copy
operation in response to the pairresync
request, so that the entire primary data
volume is copied to the secondary data
volume.

The primary storage system could not
find valid control information in its
nonvolatile memory during the IMPL
procedure. This error occurs only if the
primary storage system is without power
for more than 48 hours (power failure
and fully discharged batteries).

Release the pair from the primary
storage system. Clear all error
conditions for the primary storage
system, primary data volume, secondary
storage system, and secondary data
volume. Restart the initial copy
operation by using the Paircreate
window.

The primary storage system suspended
this pair during the initial copy
operation. The data on the secondary
data volume is not identical to the data
on the primary data volume.

“Resolving XP Continuous Access Journal Pair Suspension” (page 223)

provides troubleshooting

instructions for XP Continuous Access Journal pair suspension. Hardware failures that affect the
cache memory and the shared memory of the primary or secondary storage system may also cause
the XP Continuous Access Journal pairs to be suspended.
