Installing a Hard Drive

NOTICE:

When installing a hard drive, ensure that the adjacent drives are fully installed. Inserting a hard-drive carrier

and attempting to lock its handle next to a partially installed carrier can damage the partially installed carrier's shield

spring and make it unusable.

1. Remove the bezel (see "

Removing the Bezel

").

2. Open the hard-drive carrier handle (see

Figure 4-20

).

NOTICE:

Do not insert a hard-drive carrier and attempt to lock its handle next to a partially installed carrier. Doing so

can damage the partially installed carrier's shield spring and make it unusable. Ensure that the adjacent drive carrier is

fully installed.

3. Insert the hard-drive carrier into the drive bay (see

Figure 4-20

).

4. Close the hard-drive carrier handle to lock it in place.

5. Replace the bezel (see "

Replacing the Bezel

").

6. If the hard drive is new, run the SCSI controllers test in system diagnostics.

Removing a Hard Drive From Its Carrier

CAUTION:

Only trained service technicians are authorized to remove the system cover and access any of

the components inside the system. See your System Information Guide for complete information about

safety precautions, working inside the computer, and protecting against electrostatic discharge.

1. Remove the hard drive from the system (see "

2. Remove the four screws that secure the drive to the carrier (see

Figure 4-21

).

3. Remove the hard drive from the carrier.
