SEWING KNIT AND STRETCH FABRICS (Continued)

OVEREDGED SEAMS

Method 1—Overedging

the Multi-Stretch Stitch

42

Seams in knit and stretch fabric can be

joined and finished in one operation with

the overedge stretch stitch {Flexi-Stitch

Disc 232). Two different methods may be

used. Method# 1 (overedging) is recom
mended for firm fabrics in garments where

a ¿-inch seam allowance is adequate.

Method# 2 (mock overedging) is most

appropriate for bulky knits and fabrics

that have a tendency to curl or fray and
should be used where a wider seam
allowance is needed. Make a test sample
to help you decide which method is best
for your fabric and garment. Be sure to
duplicate the cut of the garment seam in
your test.

Remember to use a bail-point {yellow
band). Style 2045, Size 14 needle in your
machine if you are sewing a synthetic
knit.
