Hemstitched Corner
Procedure
1.
Place work, right side up, under
presser foot with the hem toward the
left
2.
Lower the presser foot and stitch,
guiding the hem edge under the
needle so that the straight stitches are
made in the drawn-thread channel (or
through the single thickness of fabric)
and the sideward stitches (or points)
in the hem.

A dainty picot-like edge can be made in
fine, crisp fabrics, such as organdie, using
the slant overedge stitch. Appropriate
for edging ruffles because it eliminates
bulk, it is also useful as a foundation stitch
for hand-rolled hems. Soft fabrics such as
chiffon or voile should be supported with
an underlay of crisp fabric while being
stitched. Make a test sample to determine
the need for an underlay, and to find the
correct thread tension and stitch balance.
Procedure
1.
Mark stitching line approximately i
inch in from raw edge of fabric. Stitch
along marked line,^ placing fabric so
that the edge to be finished is turned
to the right.
2. Trim fabric close to the right side of
line of stitching as shown.
