Contraindication
The use of Multilink Automix and Multilink Primer is contraindicated

if a dry working field cannot be established or the stipulated working
technique cannot be applied;

if a patient is known to be allergic to any of the ingredients of Multilink
Automix and Multilink Primer A/B.

Side effects
Systemic side effects are not known to date. In individual cases, allergic
reactions to single components have been reported.

Interactions
Phenolic substances (e.g. eugenol, wintergreen oil) inhibit polymerization.
Consequently, the application of products containing these components, e.g.
mouth rinses and temporary cements, must be avoided.
Alkaline jet media impair the effect of Multilink Primer.
Hydrogen peroxide and other disinfectants with an oxidative effect may inter-
act with the initiator system, which in turn can impair the curing process.
Therefore, the automix syringe must not be disinfected with oxidative agents.
The syringe can be disinfected, e.g. by wiping with medical alcohol.

Application
1. Removal of the temporary restoration and cleaning of the cavity
Remove any residue of the temporary luting cement from the cavity or prepa-
ration with a polishing brush and an oil and fluoride-free cleaning paste (e.g.
fluoride-free Proxyt). Rinse with water spray. Subsequently, dry with air that is
free of water and oil. Avoid overdrying.
Note: Cleaning with alcohol could lead to dehydration of dentin.
2. Try-in of the restoration and drying
Next, check the shade, fit and occlusion of the restoration. Care should be
taken when checking the occlusion of fragile and brittle ceramic objects
before they are permanently cemented, as there is a risk of fracture. If neces-
sary, make adjustments with fine diamonds at medium speed and with slight
pressure using copious amounts of water. Polish ground surfaces. When an
adhesive luting protocol with composites is used, safe isolation of the operat-
ing field – preferably with a rubber dam, e.g. OptraDam, or alternatively with
cotton rolls and a saliva ejector – is required.
If the dental hard tissue is contaminated with blood or saliva during the try-in
procedure, it must be cleaned again as described in Item 1.
3. Pre-treatment of the restoration
3.1 If a restoration that has been pre-treated in the dental lab comes in con-

tact with blood or saliva during the try-in procedure, the contaminated
bonding surface of the restoration must be cleaned in the following way:
– After try-in, thoroughly rinse the restoration with water spray and dry

it with oil-free air.

– Completely coat the bonding surface of the restoration with Ivoclean

using a microbrush or brush.

– Allow Ivoclean to react for 20 seconds. Thoroughly rinse the restora-

tion with water spray and dry it with oil-free air.

– Use Monobond Plus on restorations made of lithium disilicate glass-

ceramics or zirconium oxide ceramics (e.g. IPS e.max Press/CAD IPS
e.max ZirCAD). Apply Monobond Plus to the cleaned surfaces using a
brush or microbrush. Allow Monobond Plus to react for 60 seconds
and subsequently disperse it with a strong stream of air.

3.2 Restorations that have not been pre-treated by the dental lab should be

rinsed with water spray and dried after the try-in procedure. Thereafter,
the restoration is conditioned as follows:

3.2.1.1 Glass-ceramic restorations (e.g. IPS Empress

®

)

– Etch the restoration with 5% hydrofluoric acid (e.g. IPS

®

Ceramic etch-

ing gel) for 60 seconds or according to the instructions of the manu-
facturer of the restorative material.

– Thoroughly rinse the restoration with water spray and dry it with oil-

free air.

3.2.1.2 Lithium disilicate glass-ceramic restorations (e.g. IPS e.max

®

Press,

IPS e.max CAD)
– Etch the restoration with 5% hydrofluoric acid (e.g. IPS Ceramic etch-

ing gel) for 20 seconds or according to the instructions of the manu-
facturer of the restorative material.

– Throroughly rinse the restoration with water spray and dry it with oil-

free air.

3.2.1.3 Zirconium oxide (e.g. IPS e.max ZirCAD) and aluminium oxide ceramic

restorations
– Sandblast the inner restoration surfaces (sandblasting parameters

according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the restorative
material).

– If necessary, clean the restoration in an ultrasonic unit for about

1 minute.

– Thoroughly rinse the restoration with water spray and dry it with

oil-free air.

IMPORTANT! In order to create a strong bond, do not clean the

zirconium oxide surfaces with phosphoric acid.

3.2.1.4 Metal or metal-supported restorations

– Sandblast the inner restoration surfaces (sandblasting parameters

according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the restorative
material) until a uniformly mat surface is achieved.

– If necessary, clean the restoration in an ultrasonic unit for about

1 minute.

– Thoroughly rinse the restoration with water spray and dry it with

oil-free air.

IMPORTANT! In order to create a strong bond, do not clean the metal

surfaces with phosphoric acid.

3.2.1.5 Composite or fibre-reinforced composite restorations

– Sandblast the inner restoration surfaces (sandblasting parameters

according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the restorative
material).

– If necessary, clean the restoration in an ultrasonic unit for about

1 minute.

– Thoroughly rinse the restoration with water spray and dry it with

oil-free air.

3.2.2 Next, apply Monobond Plus with a brush or microbrush to the pre-

treated surfaces. Allow the material to react for 60 seconds. Disperse it
with a strong stream of air.

4. Mixing of Multilink Primer A and Multilink Primer B
The two primer liquids Multilink Primer A and B are mixed in a 1:1 ratio
(e.g. 1 drop Primer A and 1 drop Primer B). The mixed Primer A/B is solely
self-curing and does not need to be protected against light. However, it must
be applied within 10 minutes.
